FOR THE HOLIDAYS

FOR THE HOLIDAYS - TOM DOUGLAS RUB WITH LOVE TRIO GIFT SET

The gift giving season is on the horizon! For the holidays we have packaged the three best sellers of our line of specialty rubs for meat, fish and poultry, which we think makes a delicious gift.

Tom Douglas' Rub with Love holiday package is just $18 for the set which includes our chicken, steak and Etta's salmon rub. Packaged in a mesh bag and bowed with multicolored raffia, the set also includes a little booklet of recipes and instructions. The gift trios are great as stocking stuffers or a hostess gift. They can be purchased in area grocery stores, from our website or by calling us toll free at 1-877-782-9588.

In six different varieties for salmon, seafood, poultry, steak, pork or lamb, the rubs are also available individually and are $6 for a 3.5 oz. jar.

JACKIE'S ITALIAN THANKSGIVING

My grandmother came from Benevento (meaning "good wind") in Southern Italy when she was four years old. Her family homesteaded in the little town of Harris in Northern Idaho. Grandma's family brought with them an antipasto recipe that my father now makes every fall to give as a holiday gift. Dad has made a special label with my grandmother's picture and a story detailing a little bit of her personal history.

The antipasto of my grandmother's making is very different to the antipasto that most of us are familiar with. Traditionally in our family, the big soup pot is brought out and we don't stop adding until we reach the top. The mountains of fresh vegetables to be cleaned and cut up was the perfect way to occupy a house full of kids. Cauliflower, celery, carrots, onions, tuna, anchovies, green peppers, red peppers, three different kinds of olives, and a little tomato; all lightly stewed to one rich mix of summer's bounty. It was fabulous to go to the basement and see those jars lined up on rickety shelves, waiting to be enjoyed all winter long but not to be opened before Thanksgiving.

It is always such a treat to open the jar, and smell that heady aroma that for me is the essence of Thanksgiving. It also reminds of the 'perfect grandma' who baked for every holiday - actually, she baked every day! Our family had dinner at her house each Sunday and it was always a huge spread - the ham, the turkey, the pasta, AND the meatballs. So what made Thanksgiving different from any other Sunday? The meal went on a little longer and there were a few more guests, and there was always a huge batch of antipasto. - Jackie
