Strawberries, cherries, asparagus.oh my!

Around the city farmers markets are in full swing. Tom & Jackie recently brought home a bag of sweet peas from the Sunday market in Ballard and made a simple sweat pea & clam pasta with chorizo. Check out www.seattlefarmersmarkets.org to learn about the nearest market to you. It's a great way to both support local farmers AND pick up fresh food fresh from a Washington State farm. In addition to these city farmers markets, Bainbridge Island Market & Vashon Island markets are on Saturday, Ballard Market is on Sunday on Old Ballard Avenue, and Bellevue hosts a market on Thursdays.

NY, NY - Here We Come
July 10th - 12th

It's that time of year again, and we're packing up and shipping all of our rubs, sauces and mixes to the New York Fancy Food Show. This is a great show to walk and discover new product. If you're in the area, stop by and say hello!

Bon AppÉtit: the Barbecue Issue

Be sure to check out the July, 2005 issue of Bon Appétit Magazine, which just happens to be their Barbecue Issue. In addition to articles about how to choose the right grill and how to say barbecue in Japanese you'll find an article by Tom called "Fish for the 4th." In it he explains how to cook up a great Fourth of July feast — starring barbecued salmon, spicy shrimp remoulade, and ice cream sandwiches — plus, how to set a festive scene.

It's a Sweet Sweet Time at the Palace Kitchen

Check us out during the month of June and follow your meal with one of 6 desserts featuring strawberries. Local Skagit County berries are so fresh and sweet that you have to use them the same day their picked. Our Pastry Chef, Patric Gabre-Kidan has created an all strawberry menu to highlight these delicious berries. It will include such items as our own strawberry ice cream with almond shortbread, fried to order churrros with strawberry jam and lemon bread pudding with macerated strawberries.

Be sure to stop in for sweet bite and a glass of our favorite, Moscato

Going Grain-y in the Dahlia Bakery

This month in the bakery, we're featuring country pumpkin seed bread. This is a hearty whole wheat bread, with a nice robust flavor and a dense crumb. The crust is crisp without being chewy and is dotted with fresh pumpkin seeds. The PERFECT bread to smear with fresh strawberry jam. It's been quite popular and selling fast, so be sure to have a taste or pick up a loaf next time you're in the bakery!

Iron Chef America Update

Thank you all for such kind words and anxious questions about when the show will air. We've just learned from Food Network Producers that Tom, ET's and Mark's episode of Iron Chef won't air till mid-winter. Looks like we have something to look forward to, along with the holidays. We'll keep you posted as we hear more!
